figure out plan of actionHow to Set a Plan of Action Toward Your Goals

By Naomi Jackson

So many of my clients who are working on losing weight, stopping smoking or attempting to reach any number of goals, find the first obstacles to comes from the road blocks they've set up in their own minds.

"A problem cannot be solved by the same state of mind that created it."

Albert Einstein

Many people are keenly aware of what they don't want but very few have a clear picture of what they do want. And for those people who know what they want, very few take the time to map out how they are going to reach their goal.

Why is a plan of action important?

Knowing what steps you are going to take in the process of reaching your goal is essential to making lasting change. When you take the time to map out a plan, both your conscious and sub-conscious mind participate in the planning. This is important because the sub-conscious mind is where all the habits and patterns of behavior reside.

Let me give you an example: As children in school, we learned how to spell. Now, you don't go around all day spelling words in your conscious, wide awake mind, do you? Where does all that information get stored? It is stored in your sub-conscious mind, where it is retrieved by the conscious mind when needed. And how do you remember all that information? You remember because once information is stored in the sub-conscious mind, it is always there, whether you use it or not. But, the reason you can recall most things with relative ease is because you have been using that information repeatedly, over and over for years!

As you consciously formulate a plan of action, take the time to see it in your "mind's eye". This gives your mind the opportunity to work toward the greater goal you've set for yourself by seeing how you will accomplish each step along the way. Then, once you have the picture in your mind, you follow through with it.

A new thought is fragile and can be easily squashed by old patterns of behavior. To see the success you desire will require your commitment and consistency. Following through with the individual steps that will allow you to lose the weight, stop smoking or achieve whatever goal you set for yourself. Through the repeated use of new thoughts and new actions you will see noticeable change becoming easy and automatic for your benefit.

See you slim and healthy,

Naomi
